How to Spend September in Yurok Country

Updated: Oct 2

September in Yurok Country might be the best-kept secret around. The crowds have thinned out, the weather’s just right, and the whole place feels like it’s yours to explore.

Fall Foliage

September turns Yurok Country into a natural wonderland. Picture this: you’re strolling through Redwood National and State Parks with golden sunlight streaming through the towering trees on a hike. Or you’re perched at the Klamath River Overlook catching the sunset while a whale or two wave hello. It’s the kind of stuff that fills your cup and your camera storage.

Paddle Party

If water’s your thing, grab a paddle and hit the Chah-pekw O' Ket'-toh "Stone Lagoon'' Visitor Center. If you’re into fishing, get ready to brag about the Chinook salmon you’ll be reeling in this month.

Scenic Drive, Anyone?

September is prime time for a road trip. Hop on the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway or coast along Highway 101. The scenery is so stunning, you'll forget you have a destination.

Feast Mode

After a day of exploring, treat yourself to some local goodies. Think fresh salmon, local brews, and maybe even a sweet treat or two. As the day winds down, find a cozy spot, kick back, and relax.
